I played around in VSB for the first time in what feels like months.  This update looks to be very helpful.  Thanks for your continuing support Panda-X!  :D

i suggest, Panda knows, but if still not sure:

for the Previewpane> 1 > 1 : it's the HorizontalShineLayer
Previewpane > 1 > 2 : it's the VerticalShineLayer (which - i assume - is completely unused meanwhile, i take it for Save-DialogPane Shinelayers in Shellstyle.txt)

Updated Vista's XML to match that of 7.
Code:

ABS > B > B > N > A > <1> ABS > B > B > N > A > OA
THR > TH > BB > B > N > A ABS > B > B > N > A > AC
THR > TH > BB > B > N > I ABS > B > B > N > A > IC
THR > TH > G ABS > A > G
ABS > H ES > E > H
O > F TST > ST > B > F
O > L ES > S > L
O > TG ES > S > TG
O > TH ABS > S > TH

It would be great if we could get the rest of the naming for Preview Pane.

Just to be clear, how would I go about applying this to my copy of VSB (or do I just re-download it)?

It'll be out whenever 1.6 releases. Or I could see if Ave would allow an XML only update if it'll be awhile for 1.6.

  Explorer & Shell > Explorer >  Control Panel > Command Module > Unknown > Unknown could be renamed:

  Explorer & Shell > Explorer >  Control Panel > Command Module > Main Text: TextColor:Color

You might want to take some Vista Legacy items out of Vista Legacy such as:

 VistaLegacy > TaskBar+TrayNotify > TaskBar > Aero > Rebar: TextColor:Color
                                                              > Basic > Rebar > Chevron
VistaLegacy > TaskBar + TrayNotify >Taskbar > Basic > ToolBar > TextColor:Color
                                                                                      > Button

And placed in Taskbar & SystemTray > System Tray > Basic > Toolbar and renamed something like

Taskbar & SystemTray > System Tray > Basic > Toolbar > Rebar:TextColor:Color
                                                                            > Rebar > Chevron
                                                                           > Language Button: TextColor:Color
                                                                           > Language Button

Do you think it would be ok if you uploaded the xml file(s) so that we can swap out the vsb xml's ourselves? I figure it would probably work all right seeing as how most of us here are familiar with backing up files and replacing them (and how to restore it if something messes up).

                                                                           > Language Button: TextColor:Color
                                                                           > Language Button

First four I've already done.

Last one I don't know. Any Rebar and Toolbar would use those properties and it'd be best to keep the naming consistent.

It would be nice to have a maybe 1.5.5 update with some of these changes while we wait on 1.6

talk him into it lol

PandaX, I want to know how to edit xml file to make the start menu tree & Basic Window look like yours?

I've changed others, but I don't know how to change the start menu tree.

Thank you~

and I think the value noInheritParts should be true
<class description="Aero Superbar Taskband" name="TaskBand2Composited::TaskBand2" noInheritParts="false">

and here are some locations that may be helpful. Look at the attach. those locations haven't been named in 1.4.1 xml

In 1.png

             Style >Flyoutstyle > <3> > <3> TextColor is the textcolor of "Show More Details" in previewpane of explorer.

In Snap7.jpg

             Red: Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > System Tray Icons Panel Flyout > 6             Fillcolor
             ①: Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > System Tray Icons Panel Flyout > 5               Image
             ②: Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > System Tray Icons Panel Flyout > 7               Image

Plz forgive my poor English.

Preview Pane >8  is in Save Dialogue  (if you save a picture it is "Date Taken")

Preview Pane >9 > 2 is in Save Dialogue also (if you save a picture it is "Specify Date Taken")

So they are no longer unknown.

Edit: Found only in Snipping Tool Save Dialog

You already posted this in :   Reply #9 on: March 28, 2010, 08:11:42 am

 I guess you must be adding and not renaming PreviewPane > 2 >1, 2 >2, 2 >3 and 2 >4. All I have is PreviewPane > 2. Nothing else.

Oops. And yeah I added the states and named them.

Why did you rename FlyoutStyle > Link > <2> to "Hot",  :S What's wrong with "Emphasized"?

on the other hand, I totally agree with you to named Tooltip > <7> to "Options", that the original name is "Wrench" :)

And Can you tell us in details? :)

I defined Alttab in Chinese, but I don't know what you defined.
Quote

       <class name="AltTab">
      <parts>
         <part id="1" name="1.鼠标悬停某项目(Hot)"/>
         <part id="2" name="2.按键悬停某项目(Focused)"/>
         <part id="3" name="3.标题栏(Title)"/>
         <part id="4" name="4.阴影背景(Shadow)"/>
         <part id="5" name="5.同时悬停某项目/按下鼠标()"/>
      </parts>
   </class>

I defined Alttab in Chinese, but I don't know what you defined.

Because Link > 2 is a hover/hot state. And I named 'Wrench' 'Options' because it's an options button.

Removed inherited parts from:

Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > Horizontal > Button:Open
Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > Horizontal > Button
Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > Vertical > Button:Open
Taskbar & System Tray > System Tray > Basic > Vertical > Button

Re-added inheritance to:

Taskbar & System Tray > TaskBand > Basic > TaskBand (Vertical)
Taskbar & System Tray > TaskBand > Basic > TaskBand (SmallIcons)
Taskbar & System Tray > TaskBand > Basic > TaskBand (SmallIconsVertical)

This (I hope!) will be the final N00b question from me. Not toooooo bad as only began using late yesterday!!
The Question:-

You're talking about 1.6 and I've just got 1.5. How do I know when an update is available? I agree with other previous posts though, would be handy to have the XML files as a "pre-empt" to the official release.

Got to add, after the "ease" of doing XP (I skipped vista) 7 seems a bit complicated (different paths) to mod. This apps made my life so much easier!

Hi Panda, the 1.6 version will never exist, could you give us your xml files?

Is this right, will there be no 1.6 version now, will we have to wait until Windows 8 before we receive a new version now, seems unfair considering 1.5 has so many bugs and was left so unfinished, I agree that you should at least release your class map updates.

The reason I haven't is because those with 1.6 XMLs helping others with the 1.4.1 XMLs (and vice versa) would cause confusion. If there was a way I could push this release to everyone I would do it in a heartbeat.

If you released them then everyone would use them. Nobody would use the old XMLs so there would be no confusion.

Not everyone would use them because not everyone would know there was an update. Ave sends out emails of new version releases, the best I could do I just post them here.

There is no 1.6 yet. Ave's been working on it but he's been busy, so there's no telling when the next update will be.

(Win 7)

Updated DWM Window to match the layout of Window. This is the final change in the 1.6 XMLs.

Something has me confused. In the first page of this threads there's a list of changes in the new XMLs and in the Command Module changes it says:

Explorer & Shell > Explorer > CommandModule > <1> RENAMED TO BackgroundShineLayer
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > CommandModule > <2> RENAMED TO Background

and some more changes to it. But, I installed WSB 1.5, replaced the folders per the instructions in the 1.6 XML download, opened the style "Base" included with the download, but then I went to Explorer & Shell > Explorer > CommandModule > and the <number> are still there, they haven't been replaced to BackgroundShineLayer, etc.

Did I do something wrong?

 You must've gone wrong somewhere  , if the old locations are showing up the files in the win 7 folder haven't  been replaced.Try again , open the data folder (.....AveApps\Windows Style Builder\Data  ), follow the instructions in the post.

I think I followed the instructions step by step. I unzipped the files, I overwrote the Vista and Win 7 folders in C:\Program Files (x86)\AveApps\Windows Style Builder\Data, then I copied the Base folder to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\, but I also left it where I had unzipped it, since I didn't want to work directly on the C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\ folder.

I opened WSB and then I opened the msstyle Base from the scratch folder I had unzipped it. Was there anything else I was supposed to do?

Should be working :S

You could go to the win7 folder at -

C:\Program Files (x86)\AveApps\Windows Style Builder\Data

open it,open the classmap .xml in notepad, do a search for backgroundshinelayer, if it shows up you know  your files have been replaced.

  If everything checks out,I don't know what the problem is. Panda probably has an answer.

Open up \Data\Win7\ClassMap.xml and tell me what the Version is.

OK, I realized what the problem is. When I did this the first couple of times, I had not simply copied the two folders to the data folder, I had deleted the Vista and Win7 folder to make things cleaner, since I had compared the folders and they both had the same files in them. But upon launching WSB, for some reason WSB would delete the new versions and force the old versions back into place. So then I tried to simply copy the two folders and overwrite, and now WSB is working with the 1.6 XMLs. I don't know why this happens, but it's fine now.

WSB doesn't delete anything. And once you delete those files they aren't added back, WSB just runs without them. You don't even need the files to run it.

Also you could've just overwrote. It's not going to be messier and all it does is replace the ones already there.

When I load the 1.6.0 files (this is the second time) I get errors in the information panel where before I was getting info.

(http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/Elmer_BeFuddled/Aves%20Errors/SBError.png)

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

One thing I did notice, when using Beyond Compare to see if I could spot anything, is that one, maybe two of the 1.4.1 files were UTF-8. whereas the replacements are ANSI. Would this be it?

TIA

Elmer.

Have the new XML files been release on the forum?  I'd love to give them a try.
I have everything backed up so I can revert to original if necessary.
I still have the last v1.5.6.3 Beta from a few years ago.

Apologies, finally see what's goin on.  Is it me or are the 1.6 xml files already in v1.5.3.6 Beta?  The time stamps of this thread and the 1.5.6.3 Beta thread seem to indicate such.

Any new development news?  Any links to read up on for what may be halting development?

I know Microsoft probably didn't take into consideration any changes that would potentially break this project.

On a positive note, my WSB v1.5.6.3 Beta is still working in Windows 10 Build 1607.

Edit: I'm a doof.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\AveApps\Windows Style Builder\Data\Win8.1

and replace the Win8.1 folder with the attached one made by MrGrim which contains customized xml files for WSB.
