This is the problem.

The pale yellow pop-up with white text.

The pop-up menu is fine on the taskbar and icons:

(The color of the icon pop-up is actually black like the taskbar's. It just fades when I take a screenshot)

I did a search and found:  Fonts, Colors & System Metrics > Fonts & System Metrics > INFOBK:COLOR.
It was indeed the same pale yellow color as the Min/Max/Close pop-up,
but changing the color to black yielded no results. Same pale yellow pop-up with white text.

Any help finding this would be appreciated.
This isn't something I have to change in the shellstyle.dll is it?

Not Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Tooltip > Standard for Background & Styles > TooltipStyle > Standard > Textcolor:Color for text?

3am, thanks for replying so soon.

Not Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Tooltip > Standard for Background & Styles > TooltipStyle > Standard > Textcolor:Color for text?

Could we have different versions of WSB? I can't find that on mine (W7SB v. 1.5.0.0).
On mine I see:
Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Tooltip > Standard, but no Textcolor:Color.

I'm wondering if it may be the same (on mine) as: Styles > TooltipStyle > Standard > TEXTCOLOR:COLOR.

Anyway, I'm going to change that value and see if it works. Thanks again.

I just tried:

Styles > TooltipStyle > Standard > TEXTCOLOR:COLOR (changing it to black).

It changed the text on the Icon and Taskbar black, but still no change for the Min/Max/Close pop-up. So, just the opposite of what I need to do.

Very frustrating. Will continue to look.

Try Fonts & System Metrics > INFOTEXT:COLOR.

Whoops. I thought "Standard for Background & Styles" was an actual value is WSB, and not a split in your description of 2 locations.

I'll try Fonts & System Metrics > INFOTEXT:COLOR for the text, and Explorer & Shell > Explorer > Tooltip > Standard for the background.

Thanks again.

No no. That's not what I mean.

Look there's ToolTips and then there is InfoBk & InfoText. They are two different things.

Do you want to change ToolTips or InfoBk & Infotext? Which one is it?

InfoBk & InfoText is what shows up when you hover over min/max/close.

I want to change the text and/or the background of the pop-up that appears when you hover over the Min/Max/Close buttons.

That would be INFOTEXT:COLOR, and INFOBK:COLOR?

INFOBK is the background. INFOTEXT is the textcolor.

Aargh.
I changed INFOBK:COLOR from pale yellow to black, and INFOTEXT:COLOR from a dark grey (?) to white.

No change on the Min/Max/Close pop-up.

I'm confused as to why the default INFO:TEXT color was a dark grey for this style,  when it appears white on the actual pop-up.

I don't know what your problem is. Here is INFOBK:COLOR and INFOTEXT:COLOR:

Don't know why it's not working for you.

Give me a link for the theme & I'll download & look at it for you.

I'm glad I went back to Deviant Art to find the theme. The author added a text file explaining that there is a "bug" in the style and that it must be changed manually. I made the change, and that did the trick. I'll send you a PM with a link to the style if you're still interested. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I dowloaded the theme, changed INFOBK to purple and INFOTEXT to white and got this

So I still don't see why it didn't work for you too.

Yep, you're right. I replaced the Terra Nova theme I've been using, with the one I just downloaded, and was able to change the INFOBK and INFOTEXT to this:

I'm stumped, unless the bug was fixed and he just forgot to delete the warning text file.

Anyway, all fixed. Thanks for the time and the help.

It's been a long time, I know...

To change the fontface of those caption tooltips, I think it's the register tweak... so preaty tricky considering how many places are changed at the same time!

cheers
