I have done it by adding negative margins before, but I have a normal taskbar so part of it was clipped off.  So it's possible, I forget where to look but try looking at the clock/trayicon section and play around with the content margins.

What psygn said.

Or if you're trying to add hover/pressed states that's impossible. It's actually new in the msstyles header file for 7.

Why do you want to make the search text black? In my Windows 7 Build 7077 the search text is still grey.
