The windows icon in the bottom left is located in the Temporary Internet Files folder.
I used to include new icons when I made custom wmploc.dll's
Here's the instructions I used to include on how to change the icon:

"How to change Media Guide icons
It's a liitle bit difficult to do but looks cool when done!

Run Registry Editor (RegEdit).

Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Services\MediaGuide

Double click on CachedIconPath

Copy the Value data to note pad(or a sticky note)

Do the same for CachedLargeLogoPath

Now you should have 2 addresses that look something like this:

C:\Users\Toshiba\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\NY852L75\media_guide_16x16[2].png

C:\Users\Toshiba\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\M9606MDA\mg4_wmp12_30x30_2[1].png

In Explorer navigate to these folders and simply copy and paste in the provided icon
Example I would go to:"C:\Users\Toshiba\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\NY852L75" and paste in the new gray "media_guide_16x16.png

This is not permanent. If you clean your Temporaryy Internet files this will put the icons back to orginal."
