1  Help / Windows 7 / Taskbar Color Flash on: January 14, 2010, 02:59:11 am
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find it. When you click on an icon in the taskbar, there is a small flash/animation of the icons color as it's opening. Is there a way to remove/edit this?

I missed Beta 2, but I installed Beta 3 on my fresh install with custom style, and Paint.NET looks GREAT  Cheesy
3  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Strange 'bug' -- Problem with MSSTYLES or Paint.net? on: September 26, 2009, 12:06:25 am
I've read through the thread here http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=31684

A few times, he says that he isn't going to fix the problem

Quote
I never said it was impossible. I'm just not doing it. It would take an entire evening (at least) to find all sorts of weird themes to test with and to figure out how to get uxtheme.dll to render it into a bitmap with the right alpha composition. And even then there'd still be alignment or alpha blending issues with various themes, or themes that are authored incompletely or incorrectly that cause crashes or worse. And to top it all off, not many users would benefit from all this.

No. XP will either have Luna or Classic buttons depending on your theme. These button's images are hard coded into the resources DLL. If you want the best looking themed UI, you will simply need to upgrade to Windows 7 with Aero and glass.

But, one of the latest post says he may just do built in themes

Quote
Glass dialog footers are probably going to have to go, for compatibility reasons. There are just too many cases where the text does not render correctly, and I cannot afford the time to completely render the buttons myself.

I think I'm going to have to add an option to let you select the theme. I don't want to get into the business of saying, "Oh you don't get the spiffy look because ______", where ______ is any number of reasons that are technically legitimate but that would be 1) misinterpreted to be political ("omg they're paying you to make it not work on xp lolzzz"), and 2) constantly reported to me as "a bug".

But I don't know if he is speaking of themes for the buttons/dialogs or the entire interface. I wouldn't mind if the themes were built in as long as there is one that looks the way it is now. Right now, it almost looks like an official MS application that came with 7.

And the new icons are slick, too.
4  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Error Testing MsStyles File on: September 25, 2009, 11:37:01 pm
Uh, yeah it does. It always has.

To the first post, it could be due to the fact it's in a temp, are the MUI files/locale folder in there?

Well, could you release the working version? Me and the other handful of people would love to use it.

Or, what version of Windows 7 does it work on?
5  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Strange 'bug' -- Problem with MSSTYLES or Paint.net? on: September 24, 2009, 07:11:17 pm
I've also submitted through the Help menu in Paint, there is a "Send feedback or bug report..." option
6  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Error Testing MsStyles File on: September 24, 2009, 07:09:56 pm
Because VSB doesn't work in Windows 7

8  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Strange 'bug' -- Problem with MSSTYLES or Paint.net? on: September 23, 2009, 05:01:02 am
It can't be because of renumbering caused by VSB because Restorator doesn't rename or renumber anything and I get the same problem.

I just figured it out. I renamed my custom style to Aero.msstyle, replaced the original in the Aero folder, and Paint showed up correctly.

I'm going to dig further and see if it's the actual naming of the style causing the problem, or something in the .theme file named wrong.

Edit: It has to be because the style is not named Aero.msstyle, no matter how I edit the .theme file as close to the original, it still showed up wrong.

Maybe the development lead of Paint.NET can fix this to look in memory for a *.msstyle instead of specifically Aero.msstyle
9  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Strange 'bug' -- Problem with MSSTYLES or Paint.net? on: September 23, 2009, 02:57:05 am
It can't be VSB because I've made a small edit to the default Aero with Restorator, and am getting the same problem (eliminates VSB compiling issue). Only thing different between the two styles are the names, so that makes me believe Paint is looking in memory for Aero, but can only find the custom named ver. making it resort to using that washed out gray ?

10  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Strange 'bug' -- Problem with MSSTYLES or Paint.net? on: September 22, 2009, 10:54:35 pm
I don't have any clue as to why that's happening, I just wanted to say "Paint.NET FTW!"
11  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Can't test styles in 7 RTM on: August 31, 2009, 02:16:13 am
Yeah, seems like we have the same problem. I finally got it to half work like you said by removing my manual uxtheme patch and using a memory patcher.

Here's what happens to me:

-Open up new style and make edit.

-Tests and saves okay.

-Close VSB

-Open the custom style again in VSB and make a change.

-Tests okay again, but after I stop the test, all controls in VSB are unresponsive.

-I tried to delete the style's folder but got the error 'in use by another program ect.'.

-Only after logging out and back in, I could finally delete the style.
12  Help / Windows 7 / Re: Can't test styles in 7 RTM on: August 28, 2009, 10:50:50 pm
I've uninstalled VSB, redownloaded it, and reinstalled.

Changed the Caption Buttons and even some fonts, hit test and nothing changes.

Is there a seperate version for 7?
13  Help / Windows 7 / Can't test styles in 7 RTM on: August 28, 2009, 03:05:33 am
I have 7 RTM installed (and uxtheme patched) and decided to test out VSB 1.4 on it.

When I make changes to the style and hit 'test', nothing changes no matter what I change in the style.

14  Main / Announcements / Re: Version 1.4 now available on: August 05, 2009, 12:45:09 am
How complete is v1.4 as far as customizing Windows 7? Are all images in it and properties and such?

Oh, and for RTM.
15  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Feature Request: Font Quality on: May 25, 2009, 05:25:27 pm
It *should* be possible. When importing an XP style, the fonts it imports are missing the Quality property.

If you can make it for the next version, that would be great. I'm still using version 1.1.0.1, so that would be good reason to update.
16  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Feature Request: Font Quality on: May 25, 2009, 02:34:10 pm
Bump.

I also agree with this. Some fonts at smaller sizes get blurry because of the 'Quality' option. Without the Quality property, the fonts appear clearer. Unfortunatly, there isn't a way to remove this from the font option.

One way that could fix this is when clicking on a font property to edit, have a way to allow direct editing of the text (to simply delete the Quality portion), instead of bringing up the font choosing dialog box... or like above said, to have a null value.

18  Help / Windows Vista / Shadowed Text on Titlebar and Clock on: March 02, 2009, 06:38:21 pm
In basic mode, I'm trying to add a 1px black shadow to the titlebar text and clock.

Ive made the shadow work on the taskbar by using the stylehack here in the forum. Trying to add the same parameters to the clock or titlebar leaves a white glow around the text.

Any suggestions?
19  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Changing the Clock Display on: January 18, 2009, 03:20:14 am
I've had this happen to me before. I was either playing with the taskbar size (Taskbar & Tray Notify > Taskbar > Basic > TaskBar --> Height) or playing with the fonts/font size of the clock. I don't remember what font or size it was, though.

So it is possible.
20  Help / Windows Vista / Using DWM with Basic Styles on: January 18, 2009, 03:13:59 am
It's okay if this isn't possible, I'm just curious.

Is it possible to use a Basic style, yet have Aero enabled?

I think that what I am asking goes beyond changing the calls of images, but rather telling Vista enable Aero while using basic(?).

I don't think changing the calls would help much because of the caption button placement and the window header on Explorer. Explorer in Aero has one image that is stretched, Basic has two images (one for the title and one for the browser button area).

Like I said, I'm fine with Basic and have no problems using it, but just curious.
21  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Shellstyle Help on: January 18, 2009, 03:00:28 am
KoL -

To remove the image on the details pane, you will need to use a hacked shellstyle that doesn't show the image. I don't think you can find a direct download of the original modded shellstyle. So I would suggest downloading a modified shellstyle (like from Vathanx's gallery) or just suck one out of another Visual style and change the images from there. If you don't know how to change the font colors of the shellstyle (font colors of details pane), then just find one that has the font colors you need (or read the bottom of UKintel's Hex tutorial where it has how to change them). There isn't any Hex editing to change the font colors of the shellstyle, it's just a matter of editing RGB values in a .txt file in the shellstyle.dll.
22  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Theme resizes itself after restart on: January 01, 2009, 05:53:28 pm
Yes, my first post is the solution for that problem. If you have questions, compare the start button image size in some that I have ported to yours.
23  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Getting rid of this line on: December 30, 2008, 03:25:33 am
That line is on several images in the shellstyle.dll, images 300, 400, 600, 700.
24  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Theme resizes itself after restart on: December 30, 2008, 03:20:33 am
Screenshots..

I have no idea what you mean with "lines"
25  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Theme resizes itself after restart on: December 29, 2008, 12:04:08 am
Resize the image for the "Middle Button" for the taskbar. See UKintel's Hex guide for more info on what size the canvas needs to be. But, the problem is with the Middle Button canvas size.

Uh?

people like me also use vsb just for applying visual styles without changing sth. missing skills ftw Cheesy

Why?
27  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Hide folderband? on: December 21, 2008, 03:07:06 am
Um... I think your not getting it, I want to make it permanent for this theme.
In this picture, I'm not running vsb. Although the theme was made in vsb, therefore stripping it of its shellstyle.

 Whoa  Huh?
28  Tips and Visual Styles / Tips and Tricks / Re: How to remove Log-Off buttons and Search Feature (start menu) on: December 19, 2008, 05:04:46 am
I can see why you would remove the search box, but how are you going to shut down your computer without the buttons there??  Whoa Now, I would love a way to edit them without messing with the explorer.exe
29  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Hide folderband? on: December 19, 2008, 05:00:52 am
1. I'm pretty sure it's
Toolbars, Headers and Rebar -> Rebar -> NavBar -> Basic -> Normal -> Active -> Background
Toolbars, Headers and Rebar -> Rebar -> NavBar -> Basic -> Normal -> Inactive -> Background
Toolbars, Headers and Rebar -> Rebar -> NavBar -> Basic -> Max -> Active -> Background
Toolbars, Headers and Rebar -> Rebar -> NavBar -> Basic -> Max -> Inactive -> Background

2. You have make an edit to the shellstyle's 1.txt file to have it autohide. You can find out how to do it in UKintel's hex guide.

34  Help / Windows Vista / Change Vertical Size of Menus on: December 09, 2008, 08:08:38 pm
Is there a way to change the vertical size of Menus (like the right click menu)?

To shrink the gaps between entries?

36  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Start menu 'all programs' button hover text colors. on: December 09, 2008, 04:36:10 am
If it says it already exist under More Programs Tab -> Hot, Selected and Focused then just change the color.

Make sure to expand More Programs Tab to get the individual images.
37  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Start menu 'all programs' button hover text colors. on: December 09, 2008, 03:43:26 am
Under the preview for the image select "Add Property"

Then you add the properties in backwards.

For example you want TEXTCOLOR:COLOR

So you choose COLOR from the first drop down list, then choose TEXTCOLOR from the second.

Then you click okay and change the color like you would normally.
38  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Start menu 'all programs' button hover text colors. on: December 09, 2008, 03:29:08 am
Yeah :)

I just found it and hoped I would edit my post before you seen it.
39  Help / Windows Vista / Re: Start menu 'all programs' button hover text colors. on: December 09, 2008, 03:12:08 am
That is for the mouseover color for the left hand side of the start menu.

What you want is to add a TEXTCOLOR:COLOR property to More Programs Tab -> Hot, Selected and Focused

BTW, How did you make the start menu shorter like that?

Hope it can. I definitely need this.
