i had this problem, too..

i have no VSB on my this PC here atm, but it is a line in a dropdown button in the bb-toolbar in normal-state (the concerning picture contains more buttons)..

if you don't find it, i'll look for it later..

normaly it shoudn't lose it's transparency..

a screenshot would help.

if you made a 100% transparent picture, it becomes white or black on some parts of VSB.. maybe you should leave 1% opacity

In the XML I just trace them to the theme.

Example:

I go to Communications::Rebar, 0, 0 in VSB (Toolbars, Headers and Rebar > Rebar > Communications) and change on of the three properties. Which ever one matches the first part of the gradient in the Search Home is the color it reads from. In this case it's EDGEHIGHLIGHTCOLOR:COLOR.
Then I go to MediaStyle, 0, 0 in VSB (Styles > MediaStyle) and do the same. In this case it's FILLCOLORHINT:COLOR.
Then lastly I go to ListViewStyle, 6, 0 in VSB (Styles > ListViewStyle > GroupHeader) and do the same again. In this case it's ACCENTCOLORHINT:COLOR.

i admit, that i don't understand everything at the moment  , but i will look into it. it seems that you've opened a new way of furthergoing UI Skinning.
so maybe a VS similiar to the new Live Essentials Style could be possible. i love the gradients in LiveMessenger and LiveMail and the style itself.

the browse ui bmp's cannot made with photoshop directly.

1. way: using alpha image converter

2. way: save your new file as png in photoshop.
using Gimp (freeware), opening a original browseui.bmp and and opening the new png, select all, copy it as a layer into the original browseui, set the original layer invisible, save as bmp, ready

it must be an error in the theme.

i had this problem, too. and searched a long time until i found a missing contentmargins setting.

sometimes testing the theme still works, but not applying..

the only thing that helps is, using difference tool with the original aero theme or running two VSB sessions, one with original aero (or your last working VS) and the error-causing theme and checking the settings step by step..

unfortunenately VSB cannot find and display a wrong setting.

i suggest, it has something to do with a dll, that manages the aero-wizard and the title-bar color is set alike "foreground="windowtextcolor".

i think so, because in shellstyle.dll it is familiar. the shellstyle-font is set by bodytext and can be changed there, but the color is set in the shellstyle-mui.txt and can be changed only there.

but i have no idea, which dll manages the aero wizard.

This problem appears also, when replacing some transparent startmenu images..

but it helps replacing these ones with restorator..

i think it goes black, because it works only on non-aero-parts, so in basic style it should work in the start menu, too.. (didn't test it there yet)

but buttons, headers and menu parts are no problem..

i've installed 1.3 on Win7..

@panda: keep it up, please.

it needs some work, the test mode even with original theme messes up the start menu.. it has to be rebootet after this..
but it's a good idea..  will try first steps in win7 skinning with it..

seems really to be a missing tab image

the text color is set in the shellstyle mui.txt, search for <if id="atom(ProperTreeHeaderExpand)"> and set the foreground color to you window color and it's gone.
you can even set a mouse-over color, so it appears then back again

add property on Button / Pushbutton:

Position: Textshadowoffset 0,1
Color: Textshadowcolor White
Enum: Textshadowtype Single

This works on more settings, like Headertext or menutext, even BBToolbar (but there just in Basic Mode)

Hey, can anyone help me, where this "Connect to" Dialog is set?

it makes some problems in my latest VS and i don't know why..

hard to decribe.. the fontstyle="shadow" has been added manually in several postitions in the shellstyle-mui-txt

plz look into the concerning shellstyle...

unfortunately no one can tell, where the settings of "shadow" are set (colors, density etc), and if there where other functions like "glow", "outline" or something.

the 1.3 version isn't compatible to vista anymore..

i installed it, and worked on my theme, saved the progress, but the theme couldn't be activated anymore.
(the image numbers were renumbered to 5digits etc..)

i reinstalled 1.2.5 and everything is okay again.

can i install VSB1.3 on my win7 partition with the same license or do i have to buy a second license?

the Folderband Textcolor change is in the shellstyle UI text and how to change, is described in UKintel Hex Editing PDF Section 4.4 (if you don't know, search on dA for User UKintel)

The Text Color for inactive windows is in Fonts & Sytem Metrics, (active captiontext and inactive caption text)

The glow is in Windows and Caption Buttons/Aero/Dwm Window/Glows/Text

the start button, i don't know

i got partial shadow working in shellstyle, but the editable-textparts of the PreviewPane don't show shadow..
has anyone an idea, how i can fix this?

the strange thing is, when i switch to the edited visual style (via Tune-up Utilities)
the shadow appears completely once until i draw the cursor over it..

Does it do this in LHM7? Or just your theme? Because the ReBar in IE and Explorer are different sizes to begin with, making it hard to even them out.

until now, i used only 97DPI settings and it worked fine,
now i want to switch to 96 DPI and still use the large Rebar-background image,
(i guess, i've found a way to "emulate" large 97-buttons in 96DPI with my glass B/F buttons)

i rearranged the "band values", so the 96DPI B/F buttons are placed correctly in explorer,
but in IE they are 8 pixels to low because of the different height shown in the image

some suggestions:

VSB 1.1.0 doesn't allow overwrite a style in savemenu anymore, the changed style must be renamed..

shellstyle.dll support (font change etc..) would be great.. and the best with working test mode..

off topic:if you want I can help the translation into French of VSB

1. the white band is caused of some margins are not correct. (the image or the settings in the rebar/navbar are false)
 but what exactly causes your white effect, i don't know, btw it's also on the bottom of top frame..
 i guess it has to do with your changed adressbar and search backgrounds.. maybe you import them again with "replace old image", often it helps.

2. add property is for bringing in a new feature to the concerned function, maybe adding text glow to a non glowing text. the best is, you inspect some other themes and see what the authors have done here and there. what exactly is needed for a desired effect, is difficult to say without manual. a lot Try'n'error will make it. so i discovered a lot functions, too.

3. right-click a tree with the concerned settings then klick export, repeat this on all trees you want to export, finally right click and choose style-hack, name it, add a picture, and finally do it.. so you can import the style-hack on every other theme

4. no idea, sorry. haven't tried yet..

nice idea with the special shellstyle.dll

im searching for a possibility to add shadow to the title & metadata in shellstyle below the Folderband..

i found out, that you can change the glow density by adding property INT:Glowintensity (value 0-1000)

i tried a lot combinations.. i didn't get it to work with override..

the only thing what happened by these trials, is that just the shadow cut off even more without the font..
(i tested some margins in the borders etc)

anyway, someday we'll find the solution

There's a partial solution of the problem:

setting the ICONTITLEFONT to same value, the cut-off is gone..

but it sets the concerning fonts larger, too

i'm not sure , but i think it has something do with the editable text-size in the adressbar. it's still 9 and this value sets the margins..

when you click in explorer (not IE) the text to edit and sets this window inactive, the cut-off effect also appears (until the enter button is pressed or another folder in this window is selected..

maybe this helps for the search
