Do yourself a favor and just use one of Grim's themes as a base for editing. They have already been done with a custom classmap and have a custom shellstyle ready to go.

Until then just do it the easy way

I downloaded your mod files but there are some questions :

I extract the zip files in folder data where vista style builder 1.53 is , so I have new sub folders there

Is it right or do I also have to copy those subfolders to C:\Windows\resources \theme ?

and I suppose I have to replace the .msstyles with the one in the archive to the same location ?

( I moved new class files as described )

to summarize ,I'd like to know where to extract those files lol

I found out , it was color settings made under app "QTTABS " , had to disable them while applying a new theme tsss...

1) I succeed to change right context menu colors ( blue and grey shown on screenshot ) following help from this topic ( http://vistastylebuilder.com/forum/index.php?topic=2069.msg11858#msg11858) but problem is I can't figure how to get rid of the border or have same color as background( would like to have a windows 10 style ) I tried what albertt to showed on topic but failed

2) I changed caption text on colors & colorimetrics to white but have some weird results ( on black windows title )

Got it through the search field by typing " group header" and curiously accept changes that way !

Since I just came back today on forums here , I wanted to share with you a wonderful tool since it just updated for windows 10 on august 2015 and works very well and smoothly

QTTAB bar

here are some screenshots from my actual desktop :

- you can now have tabs on explorer



- you can have cascading menus when pointing on folders with files from any drive/ folders even within "my PC" view ( see the blue arrow near drive icon ) / folders browsing enable and preview pictures or even this cascading menu from tab !



- you can also have videos preview playing live in thumbnails with keyboard shortcuts ( forward - pause , increase/ decrease thumbnail preview size ! have also preview when detail view without having to switch on display thumb one

 

- you can also have a launcher from desktop ( by clicking on desktop )



And as you can see you can have custom full color for explorer background without using any third party software .

Of course it is not the main goal of this FREEWARE jewel to replace WSB but a nice addon for customizing your system and so useful

it requires .net.framework 4 , I tested it till now and very stable , rock solid and well integrated to your shell

I didn't come here for few years ago now and still own a licence for VSB 1.4 .

I was wondering if it still work the same to make some custom theme for win 10 or should I have another version than 1.4 ?

Do we have to patch system files to get it to work as before ?? is it safe to use my 1.4 with windows 10 pro ?

Does anyone know where to set font color for status bar , not the explorer one .

For example as shown below I use nero burning but can't change that black font ! and it does the same for some other apps with their own status bar

So where is the default font color for that please

If I'm right, you should find this to edit in " Windows and Caption Buttons > Aero > Dwm Window > Frames  ( try with top and bottom frames otherwise left and right )

Ok , I saw several posts saying it was not possible to change searchbox font

So how can it be as shown on the screens , ( same scale and as you can see, font size is different ! and I don't konw why )

what format do you use for ?? I tried for example 185, 220, 255 and no results ! although my theme has lot of values like in pics .

do I have to put spaces between values ?

Anyway , win 7 is better than vista , not I had pbs with it but overall , win 7 is more practical ( jumplist users are nice add IMO I use them all day ) and very stable , and apps compatibility just excellent .

Boot and startup faster than vista too and less memory consuming  by far .

The only way to avoid that for run window is to set white color to primary panel of taskdialog
