Title: Forum Dying
Post by: bhast2 on July 22, 2010, 04:55:42 pm
So is this place dying or what
Hardly anyone posts here anymore
NO update for WSB in what 9 to 10 months
No word as if there will be an update
There is nothing going on with new things that can be done with Visual Styles

It is so quiet that I can here the server running on the other end (lol)

Pry won't get an answer just like the emails and private messaged that I have sent

1.6 is in the works (http://vistastylebuilder.com/forum/index.php?topic=1183.0).

When it will be released is anyone's guess.  :P

Hmm I see that too but here I got an email from Ave that 1.6 is being worked on you would think he would just come out and say it instead of putting it in the wiki like that

And if he did that is total bullshit that he would end it that way and not have the nerve to tell people up front that this project is done for
just the avestyler I bought it and a week later the site was down so that mean if i lose the files i lost my money and that is bull crap

VistaStyleBuilder 1.6 is being worked upon:
+ fixes to the XMLs by Panda X
 + dialog bug still researching
 + several other small fixes
+ re-engineering the MSStyles compiler engine to be ready for future additions (this takes quite some time)

Over time, there have been several new features and even Windows 7 compatibility, for free. You have to understand that to make a normal living, we have to invest into multiple products - especially since piracy rates on Windows Style Builder has sky rocketed lately (for every sale we make, we see about 200 pirated copies, most of which (50%) are used on a regular basis still).

About AveStyler: the AveStyler product has been sold to a 3rd party which I'm not allowed to name yet due to contractual obligations. Existing AveStyler installs and activation keys will continue to work, of course.

I'm aiming for a september release for 1.6.

Quote
ResourceSpy, the Caption Button editor have all disappeared without a word of explanation.
ResourceSpy and the Caption Button changer are all research projects:
+ caption button changer depends on changing hardcoded offsets in memory, something which is potentially dangerous.
+ I think we can release ResourceSpy as freeware for the windows-modding community, soon.

Where did everyone go?

License based registration removed over half of the active members.
Users who no longer theme / stopped theming for a while.
Those who already know how to fully make a theme / don't ask for help.

All that's left is about 1 person/mo who makes a thread about how to do x and the 8 of us who still help.

Andreas, free updates is always a huge incentive to buy a program, but I appreciate that unless new customers continue to buy, it get's harder to keep churning out new versions.

You could consider opening donations? I know that may seem odd for a commercial project, and I also know people generally do not donate online, but, I for one would happily send along a donation to support continued development.

2 more days until it's been a whole year since 1.5 :(

First year: 5 updates
Second year: Nothing

The honeymoon is over. The thrill is gone.

Better a late quality release than an early buggy one ;)
